Piedmont ALPS is proud to host the MATH KANGAROO Competition and Piedmont Math Team training program. Math Kangaroo 2023, a fun, introductory math competition in the United States and worldwide, takes place on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Firecracker Math provides contest preparation classes for kids in grades 1-7. The workshops include preparation, coaching, and a sampling of real test problems. Firecracker Math students who participated in previous years’ competitions, ranked at the top of the National and State Math Kangaroo Competition. Competition registration ends on 12/15. The in-person and online test is $21. Late competition registration is through 12/31 with an increased registration fee. After 12/15 registration is $35. Virtual test center registration may be extended into February. The exam will take place on Thursday, March 16th, 2023. It can be taken at an in-person or online test center. Each student who sits for the 75-minute multiple choice test receives a T-shirt and a certificate of participation, with extra recognition and prizes for state and nationwide top scorers. In recent years, Math Kangaroo has drawn over 6 million participants from over 80 countries worldwide. The test is coordinated through cooperating non-profit agencies, including Math Kangaroo in USA. This is a fun and low-stress contest, administered internationally on the same day, with a spirit of competition that is akin to Piedmont’s Turkey Trot. Students get a chance to realize yearly progress and beat their prior scores. Over 30,000 kids will participate, so it’s a great opportunity to see how your child feels mathematically outside of the Piedmont bubble. Register now for the competition! Regular registration closes December 31, 2022. Late registration (at a higher price of $35, with no scholarships or IEP accommodations) continues on to January 1st, 2023.

Piedmont ALPS (Advanced Learners Program Support) is managing the local center at PMS, and we’ll be offering Piedmont Math Team enrichment programs to assist with training and team-building, running from January to March under separate registration. In order to sign up for those, students must first be registered to sit for Math Kangaroo in March. See below for more details about the training options and how to register for that program.

The workshops will include preparation, coaching, and sampling of real test problems. Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible.
· The class is for 1-7th grade students divided into different level groups.
· Dates: January 4 – March 15 (except February 15), 2021.
· It is a 10-week-long class that meets on Mondays at the following times:
· 3:15-4:10 pm Grades 1-2
· 4:20-5:20 pm Grades 3-4
· 5:30-6:30 pm Grades 5-7
· Students who want to participate in the actual competition will have to be registered for MK21 (Math Kangaroo 2021)
· Students CAN participate in class but opt-out from taking the exam.
As an alternative to Firecracker Math, Piedmont ALPS will be sponsoring its own training program this year, with the intention of having a smaller group that will switch to meeting in person as soon as it becomes feasible. These weekly workshops will occur on Sundays rather than Mondays, and they will also focus on preparation and coaching for students participating in Math Kangaroo. Space is limited, so please reserve your spot right away.

· It is a 10-week-long class that meets on Sundays at the following times:
· 2:40-3:20 pm Grades 1-2
· 3:30-4:20 pm Grades 3-4
· 4:30-5:30 pm Grades 5-7
· Students who want to participate in the actual competition will have to be registered for MK21 (Math Kangaroo 2021)
· Students CAN participate in class but opt-out from taking the exam.
